HUNGER STRIKERS FOR A POSSIBLE FUTURE - January 2021
We are a collective of citizens upset, indignant or revolted by the lack of political ambition facing the global warming and the systemic collapse of Nature. We don't want to be silent anymore.
Us
Since November 2020, in France, Belgium and other countries, 150 people from all walks of life have started hunger strikes in order to demand the release of the necessary means for ecological transition but also for health, education and employment. Our movement of hunger strikers is spontaneous, our organization informal, non-partisan and united.
Our engagement
The hunger strike is a form of radical mobilization, which is precisely why we chose it. It requires a strong physical and mental commitment which foreshadows the nutritional difficulties which await a large part of Humanity. Everyone is free to join the collective in a strike for one day, twenty days or more, then to stop and start again at a suitable time. Our strike is collective and permanent : we pass the baton to each other. When some of us engage in an indefinite strike, others choose the date of its end, still others engage in a recurring or occasional protest fast.
The goal is not to put ourselves in danger but to conscientiously challenge our fellow citizens and the political class who do not sufficiently appreciate the severity and urgency of the situation. The Hunger Strikers for a Possible Future are responsible, listening to their bodies, at the service of the Living.
We are also involved in other public actions : Medit'actions, meetings with the media and elected representatives of our municipalities, convergence actions of struggle with other groups at national and international levels.
Our complaints
We demand that States and governments play their full role in the fight against global warming and its ecological, social, humanitarian and economic effects, by financing, at the height of the challenge, the transition and measures to reduce the present and future damage.
We demand that all economic and logistical means be implemented and in particular that the financial system be used as a priority, in order to stop damaging the real economy and the daily lives of the most fragile among the citizens.
We demand that States urgently implement measures that will make it possible to brake the dramatic erosion of biodiversity. This collapse of the Living compromises our chances for the Future, our ability to adapt to new conditions linked to climate change and its attendant consequences.
We demand that all of these means be invested according to the precautionary principle, which requires not harming future generations and orienting our technical and scientific advances to ensure their long-term compatibility with Nature.
For those who join us
In any case, do not go on a hunger strike if your health is poor or if you have a long-term disease. Do not put yourself in danger : in case of doubt or of disorders that worry you, contact your doctor. You will be more effective citizen activists if you stay healthy! Do not hesitate to end your strike prematurely, no one will blame you!
For those who support us
Our collective is open to people who support us without being able or willing to go on hunger strike. We hope to be able to communicate with you, share your ideals and your actions. You are a valuable support which increases our visibility and helps us to participate in other actions. There are a thousand and one ways of acting to achieve our common goal : A POSSIBLE FUTURE while preserving the climate, biodiversity, social justice, that is to say the Living world. There will never be too many of us in this long-term battle.
